The petitions of those convicted in the Sherzat Polat homicide case were considered by the judge of the Almaty region, Dosymbek Kaldarbek. Eight requested to mitigate their sentences, but the appellate board upheld the verdict, Orda.kz reports.
The first instance court's verdict gave a proper assessment of all evidence. The actions of the convicted were classified correctly. The punishment was imposed legally and fairly, so the decision remains unchanged. In addition, the court correctly considered the civil claim. Moral damages are determined depending on the severity of each case,
the judge announced the decision.
They also upheld the private ruling against Dana Zhaksigeldy, Elmira Nurbekova, Yuldash Rozbakiyev, and Arlan Kazykenov, who were at the scene of the crime.
It instructed prosecutors to examine the possibility of holding those four witnesses accountable for potential crimes, including concealment of information and providing false testimony
16-year-old Sherzat was killed in October 2024 during a street fight in Talgar. As the investigation established, he was fatally stabbed by Abzal Shynasyl.
The verdict was handed down in early June:
- Abzal Shynasyl — 23 years for homicide, attempted homicide, and hooliganism
- Ravil Sakiyev — 20 years for attempted homicide and participation in a fight
- Azamat Toktaubayev — 15 years for hooliganism, theft, and a previous conviction
- Nurkiyas Ilyasov — nine years, taking into account previous convictions
- Darkhan Askentay, Nurbol Toktaubaev, Shyngys Belgozhaev, and Didar Kaliakhmet — seven years each for participating in a fight
- Duman Ysqaq (minor) — 1.5 years for concealing information about a crime (recently released)
