Parking at Almaty’s Medeu skating rink now includes 15 free minutes and costs no more than 4,500 tenge per day following intervention by Kazakhstan’s competition authority, Orda.kz reports.

The Agency for Protection and Development of Competition found signs that parking operator Chimbulak Development LLP had abused its market position.

Previously, drivers were charged a flat rate of 500 tenge per hour with no free grace period. This meant that 12 hours cost 6,000 tenge, while a full day cost 12,000 tenge.

The agency issued a warning, after which the operator revised its terms. The first 15 minutes are now free, and the daily fee is capped at 4,500 tenge.

The changes come as Medeu undergoes major reconstruction. Workers involved in the project previously complained that their wages had been delayed.
