Two Kazakhstan Refineries Report Separate Incidents in One Day

A fire at the Atyrau Oil Refinery has been extinguished without casualties, while a separate power-supply failure forced the Shymkent refinery to restart one of its processing units, Orda.kz reports.

Fire at Atyrau Refinery

Oil sludge caught fire inside a settling tank at an enclosed mechanical treatment facility at approximately 12:35 p.m. on August 25.

The refinery said no work was underway at the facility when the fire began. The plant continued operating normally.

Emergency services received a report of smoke at 12:55 p.m. The fire was contained by 1:42 p.m. and later fully extinguished. Sixty-five personnel and 19 vehicles were involved.

No one was injured. Investigators are establishing the cause.

Voltage Drop at Shymkent Refinery

Separately, the Shymkent refinery reported a sharp voltage drop in the external power network operated by KEGOC.

KazMunayGas said electricity had been restored and specialists were restarting one processing unit. The refinery’s other facilities continued operating normally.

The company said the incident did not affect daily fuel production or shipments. Automation and emergency protection systems minimized its effects.

The two incidents have not been linked.
