Tourists Face Penalty for Painting Rock Near Lake Shalkar

Foreign tourists have been penalized after leaving a large “St. Petersburg” inscription on a rock near Lake Shalkar in East Kazakhstan Region, Orda.kz reports.

Photos of the defaced rock circulated on social media, along with an image of the vehicle in which the tourists allegedly arrived.

Police said they identified the foreign nationals responsible for the inscription on a rocky slope beside the third Shalkar Lake. Their nationality was not disclosed.

The tourists were held administratively liable under Article 505 of Kazakhstan’s Administrative Code. Police also spoke to them about their conduct, while work began to remove the inscription.
