President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ordered a review of educational materials containing inaccurate historical information, Orda.kz reports.

Tokayev said a government inspection had previously identified more than 700 serious errors in school textbooks.

He argued that stories about fictional heroes and nonexistent feats damage education and weaken the country’s moral foundations.

Young people must understand the history of their nation correctly and look to the future with hope and confidence,Tokayev said.

The president also urged society to move away from portraying Kazakhs as a nation defined by perpetual grief.

Kazakhstan has already announced plans to publish new textbooks for grades one and five and revise materials for grades 10 and 11 in 2027.
