Kazakhstan’s Cashless Payments Top 500 Billion Tenge a Day

Kazakhstanis made 92.1 trillion tenge in cashless payments during the first half of 2026 — an average of more than 509 billion tenge a day, Orda.kz reports, citing National Bank data.

A total of 7.1 billion cashless transactions were recorded over the six months. Their number rose by 5.1% year-on-year, while their combined value increased by 4.2%.

Cash withdrawals moved in the opposite direction: the number of withdrawals fell by 5.8% and their value declined by 3.8%.

Mobile and online banking and QR codes accounted for 90% of the value of all cashless transactions. QR payments are growing particularly rapidly: they exceeded card payments made through terminals by 38% in number and 13% in value.

The National Bank said the figures showed how deeply digital payments had become integrated into consumer behavior.

Kazakhstanis also sent and received 881,000 transfers worth a combined 314 billion tenge through international money-transfer systems. The average amount received from abroad increased by 9%.

In January–May, Kazakhstanis sent 238 billion tenge abroad — roughly three times the 78.1 billion tenge received from other countries.
