Kazakhstan’s First Kurultai Election: What the Turnout and Exit Polls Show

More than 9.3 million people voted in Kazakhstan’s Kurultai election, producing preliminary turnout of 74.19%. Three exit polls gave the Adilet party more than 70% of the vote, Orda.kz reports.
The Institute of Eurasian Integration put Adilet at 71.8%, while SOCIS-A gave it 70.7% and the Institute of Public Policy 72.3%. All three exit polls placed Auyl second, followed by Respublica, Ak Zhol and the Nationwide Social Democratic Party.
The People’s Party of Kazakhstan and the Baytaq Green Party remained below the 5% threshold required to enter the 145-seat Kurultai. The official results will be announced after the Central Election Commission completes the count.
According to preliminary CEC figures, 9,352,151 voters received ballots. Turnout was highest in Turkestan Region at 92.16% and lowest in Almaty at 43.23%.
Voting has also ended at all 79 overseas polling stations. A total of 9,623 Kazakhstanis voted across 61 countries, bringing overseas turnout to 84.8%, according to the Foreign Ministry.
The final overseas polling station closed in San Francisco, US, at 8:00 a.m. Astana time on August 24. Election commissions abroad have submitted their protocols to the CEC.
