Kazakhstan’s Top Crime Regions Named

The Prosecutor General's Office shared statistics on crime rates in different regions of the country, Orda.kz reports.
According to the supervisory agency, the total number of crimes over the year has decreased from 140,272 to 132,778 cases. However, crime rates have risen in seven out of 20 regions:
- Mangystau region: up 12.2% (from 3,097 to 3,474 cases)
- Atyrau region: up 8.5% (from 4,283 to 4,647 cases)
- Pavlodar region: up 5.6% (from 5,039 to 5,322 cases)
- Qyzylorda region: up 4.6% (from 2,871 to 3,003 cases)
- Ulytau region: up 2.8% (from 1,278 to 1,314 cases)
- Almaty region: up 1.6% (from 10,223 to 10,385 cases)
- Aqmola region: up 0.7% (from 5,084 to 5,120 cases).
In 2024, most crimes were recorded in Astana, Almaty, and the Almaty region, making up nearly 40% of all criminal cases.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, fraud and theft were the most commonly reported crimes, while incidents of sexual assault were the least frequent.
Although thefts represented almost a quarter of all crimes last year, the overall number actually dropped significantly, from 42,639 to 30,593.
This decline was particularly notable in mobile phone thefts, with nearly 3,300 fewer phones stolen than the previous year.
