In a recent interview on the "Edinye Novosti," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared his thoughts on how the incoming U.S. President Donald Trump could influence the ongoing war with Russia.
The January 3rd broadcast on the Ukrainian President's official channel featured both Volodymyr and Olena Zelenskyy, with a significant focus on the president-elect of the United States.
Zelenskyy expressed optimism about Trump's potential role in the conflict, stating:
In this war, he can help us stop Putin. I believe that he really wants to stop the war. I believe that this is true.
The Ukrainian president noted his positive interactions with Trump so far and suggested that European leaders are taking cues from the incoming U.S. president.
He believes Trump's support could help unite Ukrainians, including those uncertain about the country's direction.
Regarding Putin's relationship with Trump, Zelenskyy observed:
I think Putin is afraid of him. That's why he's taking such steps so that some of the Kremlin's voices reach the Trump administration.
When discussing Ukraine's conditions for peace, Zelenskyy clearly stated his country's aspirations:
A just peace for us is: understanding that we are in the EU and when; understanding that we have powerful security guarantees - NATO is the best option for us.
Trump, who will take office on January 20, 2025, has consistently maintained during his campaign that he could swiftly bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, though skeptics doubt such an outcome.
