In 2025, Kazakhstanis made 11.77 million tourist trips. The overwhelming majority were domestic trips — 10.26 million, or 87.2% — while trips abroad were far less common at 1.5 million, or 12.8%, Orda.kz reports, citing the Bureau of National Statistics.
Most trips were made for personal purposes, accounting for 94.1% of the total. Business and professional travel made up only 5.9%. Within Kazakhstan, the most popular destinations were Astana, the Turkestan region, Almaty, and the Almaty and Karaganda regions.
When traveling inside the country, tourists most often stayed with relatives or friends — this option accounted for nearly 63% of trips. Hotels were chosen by 14.2% of travelers, rental housing by 11.5%, and sanatoriums by 3.6%.
For domestic travel, personal cars remained the most common form of transport at 33.2%, followed by trains at 22.9%. For trips abroad, most tourists chose air travel, which accounted for nearly 59%.

The largest categories of spending inside the country were purchases of goods at 25.7%, transport at 25.5%, food at 20.8%, and accommodation at 12.2%.
