Kazakhstan wants to use artificial intelligence more actively when staffing the army. Deputy Defense Minister Darkhan Akhmediyev called the Sarbaz-AI system one of the best AI projects among state agencies in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Speaking at a briefing at the Central Communications Service, Akhmediyev said the system helps determine where a conscript could be most useful. He also spoke about several digital innovations in the army. Orda.kz has selected the key points.
The deputy minister said the ministry is developing an entire ecosystem of digital services, from online call-up and loan payment deferrals to training soldiers in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
AI Will Help Assign Conscripts
According to Akhmediyev, the Sarbaz-AI system analyzes citizens’ skills and competencies and helps distribute them across branches and types of troops. Its developers believe this approach will improve the quality of army staffing and make better use of the country’s human resources.
In practice, this means that when determining a conscript’s future place of service, the system will take into account not only health and formal criteria, but also a person’s professional skills.
Call-Up And Unit Selection Will Move Online
Kazakhstan is also testing the SARBAZ+ project, which is intended to reduce bureaucracy during conscription.
Through a special portal, citizens will be able to apply for compulsory military service, receive information and use online services. After the pilot phase is completed, the project is expected to be expanded to other military units.
In the future, conscripts are expected to be able to choose a military unit themselves, taking into account their specialty and career prospects.
Soldiers Are Being Trained In AI And Cybersecurity
The Defense Ministry said it is focusing not only on digital call-up, but also on digital professions. According to Akhmediyev, under the SARBAZ+ project, conscripts are already learning skills in artificial intelligence, information security and unmanned technologies.
Special classes have been opened for training in communications, telecommunications, drone operation and AI.
After training, soldiers are expected to receive international certificates that could help them find work after demobilization.
Loan Deferrals Are Issued Automatically
Digitalization of military registration and enlistment offices is continuing. Through the Smart Military Registration and Enlistment Office project, some procedures have been transferred to electronic format.
According to Akhmediyev, the system automatically issues deferrals, supports military registration and helps conscripts obtain loan payment holidays.
Since 2024, servicemen have been able to receive loan deferrals for the entire period of service and for another 60 days after transfer to the reserve, without interest, fines or penalties. As of now, 19,200 out of 21,900 conscripted soldiers have received this benefit, and the total amount of deferrals has reached 8.5 billion tenge.
More Than 180,000 Servicemen Are Already In The Digital System
Another project mentioned by Akhmediyev was the Sarbaz 2.0 platform. Through it, conscripts can reportedly take part in competitions for educational grants and enter universities under a special program after completing service.
The system automatically creates a digital profile of a serviceman and takes into account his achievements during service. Since its launch, more than 180,000 servicemen have already been registered in it. In addition, from December 2025 to May 2026, the ministry provided more than 76,800 public services through electronic platforms. The most popular services include issuing military IDs, registration and updating service data,Akhmediyev said.
