Around 2,000 swimmers and coaches could lose access to an Almaty pool after courts ordered part of the sports complex demolished, Orda.kz reports, citing KTK.
The pool has operated for eight years and receives about 300 visitors daily, including children.
The dispute began after a resident of a neighboring apartment complex complained that the building blocked sunlight from her home. A sports club administrator later alleged that the woman demanded 230 million tenge to withdraw her complaints. According to the administrator, she was detained while receiving the money, and an extortion case was sent to court.
A subsequent inspection found that part of the complex had been built without the required permits.
Almaty’s Nauryzbay District Court ordered the violations corrected in December 2025. The city court and Court of Cassation upheld the decision in January and July 2026.
The ruling is now being enforced by Almaty’s Justice Department, although no demolition date has been announced.
