Kazakhstan: Defense Ministry Confirms Arrest of Military Attaché’s Assistant in Poland

Polish authorities have detained an employee of the Kazakh military attaché’s office, and negotiations are currently underway to secure his release, Orda.kz reports.
The Kazakh Defense Ministry confirmed that an employee of the Kazakh military attaché’s office had been arrested in Poland.
The ministry’s Center for International Relations stated that Polish law enforcement officers had detained the diplomat, and that the Kazakh side had already begun negotiations with foreign counterparts to resolve the situation.
According to the Ministry of Defense, all necessary measures are being taken to protect his rights and legitimate interests.
It was previously reported that the detainee’s name is Anuar B., and that he had worked as an assistant of the military attaché at the Kazakh embassy in Ukraine for about a year and a half. Polish authorities arrested him because diplomatic immunity only applied in Ukraine.
The man is suspected of spying against Poland and its NATO allies.
