Gibbons And Ring-Tailed Lemurs Born At Almaty Zoo

White-handed gibbons and ring-tailed lemurs have welcomed new offspring at Almaty Zoo, Orda.kz reports.

The first pair of lemurs had twins on March 6, and the second pair had twins on March 17. All the newborns are under constant supervision by specialists and are developing well.

Another significant event was the birth of a white-handed gibbon on March 6.

This baby continues a family dynasty that has developed at the zoo over several generations. His father, Jim, was born at the zoo, as was his grandmother, Julia. The new resident’s pedigree also includes his famous great-grandfather Tabin, who is well known to visitors and zoo staff,the statement said.

According to specialists, all the females and their young are doing well. With the arrival of warm weather, the families have already begun exploring their summer enclosures, where visitors can observe their behavior in comfortable conditions close to their natural habitat.

The birth of the young animals is an important event for the zoo.

The birth of offspring among white-handed gibbons and ring-tailed lemurs helps preserve the genetic diversity of these species and increases visitors’ interest in wildlife conservation,said Sholpan Abdibekova, head of the primate department at Almaty Zoo.

Almaty Zoo invited residents and visitors to meet the new young residents and watch their first steps into the wider world.
