An Almaty court has rejected a lawsuit filed by local activists who were denied permission to hold a rally in May demanding the resignation of Yerbolat Dosayev. The judge stated that the protest was no longer relevant, as Dosayev had already ceased to be Akim, Orda.kz reports.
According to the court’s press service, on May 15, two activists were refused authorization to hold a rally scheduled for May 24 in Amangeldy Imanov Park.
The planned demonstration was aimed at calling for the resignation of Yerbolat Dosayev. Coincidentally, May 24 was the official date Dosayev stepped down as Akim of Almaty.
On the specified date, repair and installation work was planned in the Imanov Square. In addition, festive events were also planned at other specialized sites allocated for holding rallies,
the court explained.
Because the activists were left without a venue, the court deemed the ban on the rally justified and declined to overturn it. The court also stated that the protest had lost its purpose.
On May 24, 2025, the date on which the rally was requested to be held, the Akim of Almaty Dosayev was dismissed from his post, as a result of which the stated purpose of the rally was no longer relevant,
the court concluded.
On these grounds, the lawsuit was dismissed. The decision has not yet entered into legal force.
