Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev has instructed the Prosecutor General to review within 12 days the appeals of mothers whose sons died during military service and to assess whether investigations into these cases were conducted lawfully, Orda.kz reports.
According to Presidential Press Secretary Ruslan Zheldybay, the directive followed a protest outside the House of Ministries in Astana, where mothers demanded fair and transparent investigations into the deaths of their children.
The Prosecutor General later announced on his X page that a meeting would be arranged for the parents:
Not a single one of their pleas will be overlooked. We will also evaluate the efforts to prevent deaths and injuries among military personnel, the legality of conscription, and the validity of medical assessments, Berik Asylov wrote.
According to him, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard have been involved in implementing President Toqayev's order.
The women spent nearly seven hours outside in cold weather before being received individually by officials. Later, however, six people were detained, including one woman and five men who had joined in solidarity.

Police described the protest as an “unauthorized gathering,” saying that officers and prosecutors had repeatedly warned participants not to violate assembly rules.
A preventative conversation was held with the mothers of the dead and injured soldiers who took part in the gathering, after which they were sent home,
the Astana Police Department said in a statement.
