Emergency services in Kazakhstan are finalizing their flood preparation plans amid an unfavorable outlook due to this year's heavy snowfall, reports Orda.kz.
Magomet Akhriev, the Department for Emergency Situations chief specialist, says authorities are preparing for worst-case scenarios.
We already know exactly how many forces and resources will participate in these events. This is about 40 thousand people. In February, the republican command and staff exercises 'Koktem-2025' will begin. They will be held in a new format: for the southern and western regions - in early February, and for the northern and others - in March. The headquarters will be located in the Atyrau region, said Magomet Akhriev.
Kazakhstan experienced the most severe flooding in 80 years in 2024.
it affected Aqtobe, Atyrau, and Qostanay regions, lasting several months and forcing the evacuation of approximately 100,000 people.
Many residents were permanently displaced, unable to return to their homes after the floods subsided.
