Aslan Ashimov, a resident of Atyrau working for a second year in Qatar’s oil and gas sector, witnessed the recent attack on the American military base Al-Udeid, Orda.kz reports.
He shared his experience with a correspondent, saying the situation unfolded quickly:
I was in the old market area. Just so you understand, there are always a lot of people here. At first, there was a strange hum. Something was flashing in the sky, like fireworks. We didn't know what to think - whether it was Starlink satellites or missiles. At first, I didn't even think that it could be an attack. But later I read on Telegram that a strike had been carried out on the US base in Qatar. I immediately went home,
Aslan shares.
He said the trip home from the Old Market took about 30 minutes, during which he saw a police presence.
We live on Pearl Island. The area is quiet, but there was a feeling that something serious was happening. The news reported six missiles. The authorities say that all of them were intercepted. People started sharing videos and voice messages in chats. Even relatives from Kazakhstan started calling, asking if everything was okay,
he says.
Aslan has not received any instructions from his employer and does not plan to leave unless the situation worsens.
There are a lot of tourists from Kazakhstan here, a lot of Kazakhs work here. And there are enough flights. I am sure that if something serious happens, they will not leave us here. But, of course, there is tension,
he added.
Meanwhile, Bahrain, Iraq, and Kuwait have closed their airspace, and military assets in the Persian Gulf are being repositioned.
Qatari authorities have reiterated their support for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
