Tokayev Signed A Decree On The Implementation Of The New Constitution

A solemn ceremony and an address by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev were held at the Akorda presidential residence to mark the adoption of the country’s updated Constitution, Orda.kz reports.

Following the recent referendum, in which a majority of participants supported the constitutional reforms, the president signed a decree on the adoption of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution.

The 2026 Constitution will come into force on July 1 this year. From that date, the 1995 Constitution will cease to be valid.

The honor guard solemnly presented the new basic law.

The event is attended by high-ranking statesmen, deputies, akims and representatives of the public.

More than 9.1 million people voted in the referendum. According to the Central Election Commission, 9,127,192 citizens took part in the vote, with turnout reaching 73.12% of the country’s just over 12 million registered voters. The majority supported the adoption of the Constitution: 7,954,667 people voted in favor, or 87.15%, while 898,099 voted against.
