According to the final draft of the new Constitution, the bicameral Parliament may step down as early as July 2026, Orda.kz reports.
Yesterday, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree to hold a nationwide referendum on adopting the new Constitution. Citizens will vote on March 15, 2026.
It should be noted that the draft Constitution proposes several key changes: protection of citizens’ digital rights, enshrining the secular nature of the state and education, introducing the position of vice president, and creating a platform for nationwide dialogue, «Kazakhstan Halyk Kenesi».
One of the main changes is the abolition of the bicameral Parliament and the transition to a unicameral Kurultai. It will consist of 145 deputies elected for a five-year term.
Here is the draft of the new Constitution.
