Prosecutors in Astana say they uncovered a large-scale scheme to embezzle budget funds from a city polyclinic, Orda.kz reports.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the money was withdrawn through the accounts of relatives and affiliated persons.
Investigators say the former management of the medical institution, whose name has not been disclosed, for a long time organized the withdrawal of funds intended for patient treatment.
According to the case materials, the money was transferred to the accounts of close and related persons under the guise of lawful financial transactions.
Part of the funds, prosecutors said, was spent on expensive household appliances and trips abroad, including to Italy.
The total damage to the state exceeded 675 million tenge.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched on charges of large-scale embezzlement. The case is being handled by special prosecutors.
