Kazakhstan will continue gradually raising the retirement age for women to 63 by 2031, Orda.kz reports.
Deputy Labor and Social Protection Vice Minister Viktoria Shegai said on the sidelines of the Mazhilis that the earlier increase had only been suspended temporarily. According to her, the retirement age for women will continue to rise until it reaches the same level as for men.
She also said the Labor Ministry had launched the Silver Age program, which helps older women find work. Under the program, the state subsidizes part of salaries for employers so they hire more experienced workers.
A number of other programs also apply to older people. This is retraining, advanced training.
she added.
The ministry explains the policy by the specifics of the funded pension system: the longer a person works and makes contributions, the higher their future pension will be. A shorter period of employment means lower payments.
At the same time, officials are not currently considering extending the moratorium on raising the retirement age beyond 2028.
