Series of Earthquakes Hits Eastern Tajikistan

A series of earthquakes struck eastern Tajikistan on April 13, Orda.kz reports, citing the country’s seismological service.
Three quakes were recorded throughout the day: the first at 09:24 local time with a magnitude of 5, the second at 12:14 (magnitude 4), and the third at 13:33 (magnitude 3).
Meanwhile, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), a subsequent magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck at 12:44 AM local time in Tajikistan at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was located at latitude 38.82° N and longitude 70.45° E.
Significant damage has been reported; 29 houses and one school building have been destroyed. The Rasht district was the hardest hit. According to the Tajik Emergency Situations Committee, the wall of a residential building collapsed there, killing a three-year-old child who was trapped under the rubble.
A commission from the Emergency Situations Committee is currently on-site to assess the damage and oversee recovery efforts.
