Senators are calling for an audit of the Almaty metro and a full safety review, Orda.kz reports.
According to Senator Galiaskar Sarybayev, the metro remains a key form of transport used daily by more than 120,000 people and by more than 26 million passengers a year. At the same time, the network continues to expand. However, he said a recent case of smoke caused by a technical malfunction showed that risks remain.
A recent case of smoke caused by a technical malfunction in the rolling stock raised serious concern. Although the situation was quickly stabilized, this incident showed that there are risks in the system that require attention and measures at the state level.he said.
Sarybayev also pointed to problems with renewing the train fleet. He said procurement tenders had been disrupted and that new trains must be fully compatible with the current control system.
The technical documentation requires full compatibility of new trains with the Hyundai Rotem traffic control system currently in use. Decisions on renewing the rolling stock go beyond ordinary procurement and are directly related to the strategic stability and safety of the country’s only metro system.the senator said.
He added that as passenger traffic grows, it is important to take technological risks into account.
In this connection, the senator proposed that Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov order a full inspection.
Conduct a comprehensive risk assessment during the renewal of rolling stock, including safety and technical compatibility; examine the condition of the current fleet; and check the quality and compatibility of solutions purchased from different manufacturers.the senator said.
He also called for the development of a long-term plan to ensure the metro’s uninterrupted operation.
