In Kazakhstan, biometric identification systems that allow passengers to check in using fingerprints and retina scans are being tested at Astana Airport, with other airports set to join the pilot project, Orda.kz reports.
The system operates on the E-freight platform, which is already connected to all airlines and airports in the country.
Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev explained which biometric data will be used.
Biometrics — fingerprints and retina scans — are the two main parameters used in aviation. We will run a pilot on them. Registration will be carried out not through an identity card, but through biometric data. They will replace documents,Sauranbayev said at a government briefing.
According to him, the system is expected to significantly speed up passenger check-in procedures.
