Russia has granted expedited citizenship to a 24-year-old native of Kazakhstan who was seriously wounded while fighting in Ukraine, Orda.kz reports, citing the Russian Interior Ministry’s official outlet, MVD Media.
The unnamed individual reportedly took part in the so-called “Special Military Operation” and sustained injuries during combat. Authorities in North Ossetia-Alania handled the paperwork on an emergency basis.
Considering the situation, the employees of the North Ossetia-Alania Migration Department completed all the necessary procedures for obtaining Russian citizenship in the shortest possible time, which made it possible to resolve a vital issue for a participant in the North Ossetia-Alania as quickly as possible, said Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk.
Notably, the announcement coincided with Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev’s visit to Kazakhstan’s Oskemen, where he met with Kazakh Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov.
Under Kazakh law, citizens are banned from participating in foreign armed conflicts and prohibited from holding dual citizenship. Violations are punishable under criminal statutes on mercenarism and participation in foreign wars.
