Astana Resident Who Posted Story About Harassment in Army on Social Media Detained

A 23‑year‑old resident of Astana is suspected of fraud and dissemination of false information, Orda.kz reports.
On February 23, an anonymous user said on Threads that a year ago he was allegedly sexually abused by a commander while serving in the army.
Savoring the details, the man asked for financial support from users, citing a threat and stating the need to go abroad. Bank details were attached to the post, and citizens were asked to transfer money allegedly necessary for his departure. To persuade them, he assured that he was depressed after everything that had happened and could not continue his previous relationship with his girlfriend. the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
One of the social network users contacted the police to check the account. Its owner turned out to be a 17‑year‑old boy.
According to him, an old acquaintance asked for the account details, promising to pay off a debt. He also told a story about blocked accounts and problems with transfers, asking for help in receiving other amounts. The trusting young man agreed. In just two days, more than 100 money transfers were received into his account.police added.
The author of the post was detained. Police determined that his story was a fabrication. Moreover, the author of the content has no connection to military service and never served in the army. He invented the story to raise money.
Criminal cases have been initiated for the dissemination of knowingly false information and for fraud. A pre‑trial investigation is underway; the detainee has been placed in a temporary detention center. He was arrested with a court sanctionthe department informed.
