Chairman of the Board of the National Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health, Erik Baizhunusov, spoke about how Kazakhstanis tend to harm their health, Orda.kz reports.
He noted that the spread of bad habits is well documented in the country.
I would put alcohol consumption in first place. The level is high in Kazakhstan, and it is determined not only by the volume of alcoholic beverages sold. In medicine, it is measured by the number of patients suffering from liver cirrhosis. We have more and more such patients – in five years, the number of patients with cirrhosis has increased by 1.2 times, with liver cancer – by 1.3 times, and with chronic viral hepatitis B and C – by 2.5 times.he said at a briefing in the Central Communications Service.
There is also a problem with energy drinks, which are sold en masse in every store. Their harm lies in the impact on the cardiovascular system, stomach, liver, and so on.
Tobacco consumption in Kazakhstan has increased to 39% overall, and to 8.5% among women. While the Ministry of Health has traditionally focused on combating tobacco smoking, vapes have recently joined the list.
The system of bad habits and their spread is evolving; more and more new methods of delivering harmful substances to the body are being invented.Baizhunusov concluded.
