A pair of Amur tigers, Bentley and Yargi, gave birth to three tiger cubs at once. The cubs were born on January 11, Orda.kz reports.
For the first months, they stayed with their mother in an enclosed den – they were not disturbed so the babies could grow stronger in a calm environment. With the onset of spring, the tiger cubs began to go out into the enclosure and explore their surroundings.
So far, they feed on their mother's milk, but they are already showing interest in solid food and becoming more active.
Amur tigers are listed in the Red Book, so the birth of three cubs at once is an important event for the conservation of this rare species. It is the largest tiger subspecies and the only one that lives in snowy environments. The main threats to its survival are poaching, forest destruction and a lack of prey.
In addition, with the arrival of spring, heat‑loving animals have begun to be moved to their summer enclosures. Elephants, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, tapirs and pelicans have already been given access to the outdoor areas.
