Barriers Block Animal Migration in Zhetysu, Residents Demand Action

Indifferent residents of the Zhetysu region are sounding the alarm: barriers along the roads have begun to destroy the usual life of the steppe, Orda.kz reports.
A resident of the village of Kabanbay in the Alakol district sent a video in which he says that wild animals are piling up near the roadside and cannot overcome the obstacle — they are unable to cross the artificial barriers.
The barriers in question were installed by KazAvtoZhol. Formally, they are intended for traffic safety. But, according to the author of the video, in fact they have blocked the natural migration routes of animals.
In the footage, roe deer stand in groups, moving restlessly along the road as if looking for a way out, but do not dare to cross the obstacle. Their route, which they had used for years, has been cut off.
And this is no longer just an environmental issue. This is an intervention in a fragile system that has been formed for decades and is maintained in a delicate balance.
Local residents demand an immediate response from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and other authorized bodies — up to sending a commission to the site.
Because it is no longer about a potential threat. Animals are effectively cut off from pastures and water sources. Their migration corridors are broken, and the risk of death becomes real.
Villagers demand that the fences be dismantled and passages for animals be created.
