The court in Qaraganda has announced a recess until November 3, as the defendant prepares to deliver her final statement, Orda.kz reports, citing eQaraganda.
The trial of 22-year-old businesswoman and blogger Alika Mukhamadieva, accused of inciting ethnic discord through her social media posts, continued on October 17.
During the hearing, the prosecutor requested a sentence of four years and six months in prison.
According to investigators, Mukhamadieva’s posts contained language that could provoke social conflict, a claim supported by a forensic examination. The prosecution argued that her statements offended national sentiments and were capable of fueling interfaith tensions.
The judge postponed the proceedings until November 3, when Mukhamadieva will present her final statement before the court moves to a verdict.
Earlier, Mukhamadieva admitted guilt, saying her posts were made in a state of emotional distress.
She explained that at the time, she was coping with the aftermath of an accident and the death of her grandmother. In court, she noted that she has not seen her young daughter since her arrest. Her defense is seeking a non-custodial sentence.
