After signals from concerned residents and a publication by Orda.kz about the Almaty–Oskemen highway, the fences that were preventing wild animals from migrating have been dismantled.
At the 495th kilometer of the road, the metal netting that had effectively blocked the path has already been removed. Specialists from the Natural Resources Department, employees of the Zhongar‑Alatau National Park, representatives of KazAvtoZhol, the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office and the police joined the inspection.
Following the inspection, the main migration routes of the animals were identified, and fences in those areas began to be removed.
Yesterday, Orda.kz published an article reporting that barriers along the route were preventing animals from reaching pastures and watering holes. Readers had sent a video to the editorial office showing roe deer standing by the road, gathering in groups, unable to cross the barrier.
Formally, the fences were erected for traffic safety. But in practice, they blocked natural migration corridors. Residents called on the authorities to intervene and remove the barriers before the situation led to the death of the animals.
