Two months after the explosion at the Niyet refueling station in Qulsary, the station’s director has been detained, Orda.kz reports.
The Specialized Investigative Court of Atyrau has placed the detainee under house arrest.
The explosion occurred in May 2025 and resulted in the deaths of a married couple. The victims suffered severe burns, and their relatives were unable to bury them for nearly two months while awaiting the completion of forensic examinations.
Earlier, the victims' family voiced complaints about the lack of support and attention from the station’s owners.
The incident sparked widespread public outcry. Despite repeated appeals and complaints regarding the Niyet station network, its operations continued.
Now, according to investigators, the station director has been named as a defendant in a criminal case.
While the official cause of the explosion has not yet been announced, earlier comments from the Department of Emergency Situations suggested a gas leak ignited by a spark.
Investigative actions are ongoing. The victims’ family has requested that the Prosecutor General’s Office take the case under special supervision.
