Statistics Show Where the Most Women Live and Work in Kazakhstan

More than 10.4 million women live in Kazakhstan. Ahead of March 8, the Bureau of National Statistics published the latest data on the sectors where women most often build their careers and the cities where the female population is largest, Orda.kz reports.
Today, the number of women in Kazakhstan exceeds 10.48 million. Their average age is 34.1, and life expectancy stands at 79.4 years. Almost a third of women in the country are girls and teenagers under the age of 15, making up 29.1% of the total. More than half are between 16 and 60 years old. Another 15.4% are women over 61.
Most women live in Almaty, at about 1.2 million. In second place is Turkestan Region, with around one million women. Astana is home to 803,500 women, while Almaty Region has 778,500.
Almost half of all women are involved in the country’s economy. They make up 48% of the employed population, or about 4.4 million people. Among salaried workers, women account for 50%, while among the self-employed their share is 45%.
Kazakhstani women most often work in education. Every fifth employed woman works in this sector. Another 19% are employed in trade, and about 10% in healthcare. Women are also actively involved in entrepreneurship. Among individual entrepreneurs, they outnumber men, accounting for 50.8%. The largest group of working women is aged 35 to 44, with about 1.3 million people in this category. according to BNS.
Earlier, Orda.kz reported that Kazakhstan’s population has been growing for the second year in a row, including due to migration. In 2024, about 30,000 people moved to Kazakhstan for permanent residence, while around 13,000 left the country.
