Kazakhstan Moves to Legalize Private Detective Work
The Majilis has adopted the draft law “On Private Detective Activity,” Orda.kz reports.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of parliament, MP Snezhanna Imasheva said the document expands opportunities for citizens to protect their rights and legitimate interests and creates a legal framework for the institution of private detective work.
The draft law sets out the basic concepts of private detective activity, as well as the principles, tasks and procedure for its implementation. she said.
The bill also defines the legal status of detective agencies and private detectives, establishes a licensing procedure, and sets out state regulation.
Private detective work is not currently legalized in Kazakhstan. Unlike private security services, which are governed by a separate law (“On Private Security Activity”), Kazakhstan has not previously had a dedicated law regulating private detectives.
