Hackers attempted to breach the website of Kazakhstan’s embassy in Russia, but the Ministry of Digital Development has not confirmed whether an investigation will be launched or who might be responsible for the attack, Orda.kz reports.
Responding to an inquiry from Orda.kz, the Ministry of Digital Development and Aviation Industry acknowledged the hacking attempt on Kazembassy.ru but did not clarify the extent of its success.
An attempt to hack the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Moscow (Kazembassy.ru) was recorded. At the moment, no complaints have been received from individuals, legal entities, or government agencies, the Ministry stated.
Officials mentioned that there could be an unscheduled inspection, but only if formal requests are submitted.
The Ministry did not answer to the question concerning what measures would be taken to protect Kazakhstanis' personal dаta:
To conduct an unscheduled inspection, the application must contain reliable materials confirming the violation with reference to the points of the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December 20, 2016, No. 832 (On approval of uniform requirements in the field of information and communication technologies and ensuring information security), the Ministry’s response read.
The Ministry also did not address who might be behind the attack.
Recently, Russian analysts from DLBI reported that Kazembassy.ru had been subject to hacking.
According to their findings, hackers allegedly stole user data, including names, passport details, addresses, 24.5 thousand phone numbers, and 32.5 thousand email addresses.
The breach is believed to have taken place at the end of February.
