Kazakhstan’s rail fleet remains heavily worn despite modernization efforts, Orda.kz reports.
Industry and Construction Minister Yersain Nagaspayev said this at a government meeting.
Despite the measures taken, the level of wear in the rail fleet remains significant. Freight cars are 54% worn, locomotives 52%, and passenger cars 42%,he said.
According to the minister, the ministry will work on mechanisms to prioritize the purchase of rolling stock from domestic producers.
To date, the funds allocated to subsidize interest rates for the purchase of KTZ wagons and gondola cars from domestic manufacturers are significantly lower than existing demand. Therefore, we need to consider ensuring sufficient funding for these purposes,Nagaspayev said.
The ministry also plans to conclude long-term offtake contracts to ensure stable workloads for existing production facilities and meet projected demand for products from domestic enterprises.
