Work has begun on a new plant for the fractionation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the Kashagan field in the Atyrau region, Orda.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, construction is being carried out by contractors of the NCOC consortium, under the supervision of JSC QazaqGaz. The plant's development is based on a purchase and sale agreement and a roadmap approved last year by Kashagan investors and QazaqGaz.
The project is aimed at ensuring stable supplies of LPG to the domestic market and reducing the fuel deficit. The project is of strategic importance for the country's energy security and will be an important contribution to the development of the gas processing industry, the Ministry stated.
Preparatory work is currently underway, including the installation of foundations for equipment, infrastructure, and buildings. The plant is expected to process its first batch of gas for domestic distribution in December 2025.
Separately, authorities have called for a halt to the construction of a gas processing plant at Karachaganak due to ongoing disagreements with foreign investors.
