Atyrau: Proselytiser of Banned Islamic Organization Detained

Police have detained a 44-year-old man suspected of disseminating the ideas of the Tablighi Jamaat religious organization, banned in Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service.
The investigation says the man met young believers in mosques. He invited them to his home and persuaded them to participate in extremist activities. During a search, banned books and electronic materials of religious content were confiscated.
Tablighi Jamaat is an organization that emerged in India and Pakistan. In Kazakhstan, the movement is recognized as extremist and banned for undermining traditional moral and ethical values.
The detainee had previously been convicted for participating in the organization's activities.
A criminal case was opened under the article on the creation of and participation in an extremist organization. The investigation is ongoing.
