Kazakhstan may limit beef exports for another six months, Orda.kz reports.

A draft order has been published on the Open NPA portal for public discussion. Under the proposal, Kazakhstan would allow exports of no more than 25,000 tons of fresh, chilled and frozen beef during the six-month period.

The restriction would apply both to countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and to other states.

The Ministry of Agriculture said the measure is needed to supply domestic meat processing plants with raw materials, increase processing volumes, create additional jobs, fill the domestic market with meat and stabilize prices.

The draft order was prepared following a June 26 decision by the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy.

Public discussion of the proposal will last until July 1.
