Students up to seventh grade in Kazakhstan may be required to hand in their smartphones before classes, Orda.kz reports.
Education Minister Zhuldyz Suleimenova said the ministry is now preparing the relevant rule. However, she said there are no plans for a complete phone ban for high school students, as many subjects already use online platforms.
I think these issues will need to be discussed with teachers in high school. Many subjects are taught through online platforms, and there is also preparation for the UNT and SAT. In other cases, up to seventh grade, smartphones will have to be handed in during lessons,Suleimenova said on the sidelines of parliament.
She added that the final rules for smartphone use in schools are still being discussed.
Earlier, parents in Kazakhstan opposed a complete ban on smartphones in schools.
