Astana Residents Fight Home Demolition Over “State Needs”

Residents of the Zarechny area in Astana have reported that their houses are being demolished under the guise of state needs, Orda.kz reports. According to them, residential complexes may be built on the site of the private sector, while the compensation offered is insufficient even for comparable housing.
In a Threads post, the author noted that people who have spent decades building their homes — investing money, energy and time — are now being told to vacate the territory for state needs.
At the same time, residents are asking: "Why then are apartment complexes planned on the site of our houses? Is this really a state need or commercial development?"
The author also addressed the amount of compensation. According to him, property valuations have been significantly underestimated, and the proposed money would not even be enough to buy similar housing.
We are not against the development of the city. But we are against injustice, pressure and depriving people of their legal housing without fair compensation. We ask for publicity and justice. We ask for the legality of the case to be reviewed.the post reads.
One resident, who introduced himself as Azamat, also complained about the actions of the Astana akimat.
Our house and land are being seized, and the akimat of Astana is offering too little money for the plot. In addition, I have a first‑group disability. My house is located in the Zarechny microdistrict on the left bank — it's one of the most beautiful places, but it has been valued at pennies.he wrote.
Orda.kz is preparing an official inquiry to the capital’s akimat, requesting clarification on the situation.
