The question of Armenia’s withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is being discussed, Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan told reporters on Wednesday, Orda.kz reports, citing NewsArmenia.AM.
If such developments occur, you will know. Yerevan is not taking part in decision-making or signing CSTO documents, but we are not obstructing them either,
Safaryan stated.
He added that Armenia’s current approach reflects its foreign policy priorities.
Armenia conducts its foreign policy based on its own interests and the situation, in line with the declared principle of diversification and balancing,
the deputy minister said.
Earlier, it was confirmed that Armenia will not participate in the November 26–27 CSTO summit in Bishkek.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov later stated that Armenia would not attend the Bishkek summit, but said Yerevan is not opposed to the adoption of CSTO documents in its absence.
Armenia has abstained from other CSTO-related events in the past, signalling its ongoing membership freeze.
