Six Foreigners Sentenced To Up To Eight Years For Kidnapping In Astana

Six foreigners have been convicted in Astana of kidnapping and extortion, Orda.kz reports, citing the city prosecutor’s office.
On December 9, 2024, one member of the group demanded money from the victim for an allegedly provided service. He threatened the man and used force. As a result, the victim transferred 80,000 tenge to him.
Later, the group kidnapped the victim in Astana. Investigators found that the perpetrators acted by prior conspiracy, for selfish motives, and used violence.
The court found all six defendants guilty. Five were sentenced to eight years in prison each. The sixth received seven years and six months in a penal colony for aiding and abetting kidnapping and arbitrariness.
