Kazakhstan has expressed its readiness to assist with the issue of Iranian uranium, but any final decision depends on international agreements. Yerlan Zhetybayev, official representative of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said this, Orda.kz reports.
According to Zhetybayev, Kazakhstan is monitoring the situation surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and supports the use of nuclear energy exclusively for peaceful purposes under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He noted that Kazakhstan, along with other countries, had expressed its readiness to help resolve the issue, but only with the consent of all parties involved in the negotiations.
A number of countries, including Kazakhstan, have expressed their readiness, in the spirit of goodwill, to provide technical assistance in resolving this issue, subject to the achievement of relevant international agreements between all parties involved and the practical implementation of the issue,Zhetybayev said.
He also added that Kazakhstan hosts the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium Bank, which belongs to the agency and serves as a backup source of nuclear fuel for peaceful nuclear programs.
We have expressed our commitment and readiness to provide technical assistance in good faith. Again, I repeat, provided that the relevant agreements are reached, the Foreign Ministry representative added.
Earlier, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said after his visit to Kazakhstan that the country had expressed readiness to accept Iranian uranium.
