A woman in Shymkent was seriously injured on the night of April 9 in what her family describes as a violent assault by her ex-husband, Orda.kz reports.
The victim, Akmaral, a mother of four, was reportedly attacked by her former husband near her home after returning from work. Another man was with him.
Her sister, Manshuk Bubeyeva, shared that Akmaral rented a small store:
He was waiting for her in the yard, attacked her, first beat her, then slashed her neck twice with a knife. She says that her arms and legs immediately gave out, and he began to strangle her. She was immobilized, lost a lot of blood,
shared the sister.
Believing that Akmaral had died, the man took her bag, documents, keys to the store, and withdrew about 500 thousand tenge from her account.
Manshuk also stated her sister had been subjected to prior abuse, adding that he had previously threatened their family:
He repeatedly raised his hand against her, threatened, said, a little bit more left and I will kill you. On the eve of April 8, he called our parents and said that everything would soon be over, 'I will kill you all, I will cut you all.' My parents are pensioners, they called 102. They sent district police officers who took the statement, but no action followed from their side,
she says.
Although Akmaral and her ex-husband officially divorced in 2013, he continued to visit unannounced and take the children.
Manshuk said her sister had plans to move.
I always said: Akmaral, it's time to finally part ways. I warned her: 'Look, everything could end badly.' She planned to move, but didn't have time. According to her, that night she realized that he had a sharp object in his hands. She tried to protect herself, even her index finger was badly cut. But he hit her anyway.
Akmaral now faces serious health complications, including tetraparesis and a closed head injury. Doctors say there is a chance she could recover mobility, but her condition remains critical.
The first day we just prayed, fought for her life. Her limbs are immobile, the knife damaged her spinal cord. The doctors say that maybe one day she will get back on her feet... but it's unlikely,
Manshuk says.
A criminal case has been opened for attempted homicide.
The suspect is currently in a temporary detention facility, and the investigation is ongoing.
