Turkish airport operator TAV Airports will acquire the remaining 15% stake in Almaty International Airport for $133 million, becoming its sole owner, Orda.kz reports.
TAV currently owns 85% of the airport. The remaining stake belongs to its partner, VPE Capital, which exercised a right under the companies’ 2021 agreement to sell its shares.
We have reached an agreement to acquire the remaining 15% of Almaty Airport shares for $133 million,TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan said.
TAV did not say when the transaction is expected to close.
TAV and the Kazakhstan Infrastructure Fund acquired Almaty Airport in 2021. TAV received an 85% stake, while the VPE Capital-managed fund acquired the remaining 15%.
The airport has undergone major changes since the acquisition. A new international terminal opened in 2024, while the old terminal was converted to handle domestic flights.
Orda.kz recently reported that a ventilation pipe collapsed in the airport’s departure area. Earlier this year, the airport administration was penalized after its roof leaked.
