The administration of Almaty Airport was punished after videos spread on social media over the weekend showing water pouring from the ceiling in several terminals, Orda.kz reports.
The Civil Aviation Committee said the airport was held administratively liable after the incident.
According to the committee, a disciplinary penalty was imposed on Mehmet Guzel, the airport’s senior vice president for technical matters.
The airport apologized to passengers for the inconvenience. The identified problems are now being addressed, and the causes of the flooding are expected to be fully eliminated within six months.
Almaty Airport has been owned by Turkey’s TAV Airports Holding since 2020. The company’s biggest project there has been the construction of a new terminal, which opened in June 2024 and cost $780 million.
