The appeals board of the military court in Astana took a break at the request of the lawyers of Arman Zhuman, Orda.kz reports.
Today, in the Astana military court, a panel was set to consider an appeal against the acquittal of serviceman Arman Zhuman regarding the charges brought against him for killing Aikorkem Meldehan. The hearing lasted only a few minutes, however. The court went on break.
It turns out that the serviceman’s lawyers flew to Almaty yesterday, and today they sent a motion through the judicial office to postpone the hearing, lawyer Jean Kunserkin clarified.
Aikorkem's father, Aidos Meldekhan, had to urgently fly to Almaty for medical reasons. He is currently in a hospital. He said he had found the video that Arman Zhuman's lawyers are using as evidence against him.
With the help of a short fragment in which a gray-haired man bends over another man, Arman Zhuman's defense is attempting to portray Aidos Meldehan as a terrorist and an active participant in armed attacks during the days of Qantar.
They even carried out some kind of examination, which supposedly proves that it is me,Aidos Meldehan said.
His lawyer explained why the video clip proves absolutely nothing.
Firstly, in this video, the person does not even resemble Aidos Meldehan in silhouette; his legs are clearly longer in relation to his upper body. Secondly, in the video, he checks another person's pulse professionally. We can assume that this is a medical professional. And thirdly, in the video, the man is grey-haired, and Aidos's (hair - Ed.) turned grey after Qantar after the death of one daughter and the wounding of the second daughter, who is now disabled, explained Zhan Kunserkin.
Four-year-old Aykorkem Meldehan died on January 6, 2022, when a car with her brother and sister came under fire on Independence Square in Almaty. A bullet struck the girl in the head. Her brother and sister were injured.
Orda's editor-in-chief of Orda.kz learned about this story by chance when, on January 8, she encountered the girl’s father, Aidos Meldekhan, at the gates of an Almaty morgue.
On October 22, 2022, investigators identified the bullet that killed Aikorkim. In January 2023, the case was classified.
On November 15, 2023, the military court of the Almaty garrison acquitted serviceman Arman Zhuman.
On March 13, 2024, the military court in Astana began to consider the appeal against the acquittal. Zhan Kunserkin is seeking a homicide charge against Armand Zhuman.
