Illegal Gold Mining Sites Found In Kazakhstan’s Abay Region

Kazakhstan’s Financial Monitoring Agency says it has stopped illegal gold mining in the Abay region, Orda.kz reports.
Investigators found three sites where unidentified people had carried out exploration work and mined precious metals.
According to the agency, the illegal miners damaged the land and removed the fertile soil layer.
Three sites where exploration and illegal mining were carried out were identified. Gold-bearing metal, washing equipment, special machinery and vehicles were seized. We are now identifying everyone involved, the volume of illegally mined precious metals and the amount of damage,the agency said.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are trying to establish who was behind the illegal scheme.
